Legendary bugs in Fields of Mistria are the rarest insects you can catch with the Bug Net, a small group of overworld species that are far harder to find than the commons that fill the early museum. The Bug-Catching System

Bugs are caught with the Bug Net, which you swing at insects found out in the open; you can also buy some species from Balor’s Wagon. The game loads a random set of bugs onto each screen, so what appears is partly luck and partly your surroundings. Certain insects only show up after special actions like shaking trees, cutting grass or breaking rocks, and catching them costs no bait or stamina. Most non-legendary bugs still follow broad time windows — Morning from 6 AM to 11 AM, Day from 6 AM to 8 PM and Night from 8 PM to 2 AM — so you can usually predict where a common species appears during a given part of the day. Because the spawns are random, the difference between a quick catch and a long hunt usually comes down to how you move between screens.

What Makes a Bug Legendary

The museum groups bugs into themed sets, and the Legendary set sits at the very top of the insect collection. These insects carry the “very rare” tag, sell for 30t each, and were historically restricted to certain times of day. Since the v0.14.2 patch, legendary insects are no longer limited by time of day, which makes hunting them far more forgiving. Even so, season and weather still gate every legendary species, so the forecast matters just as much as it does for fish. The “very rare” tag means most players will not see one for many in-game days even when the season is right, so persistence is built into the hunt. Their modest 30t sell price is a reminder that these bugs are collector’s trophies rather than cash crops — the real value lies in the museum and in the crafting systems that use them.

The complete list of legendary insects should be confirmed in-game, but these are the species consistently reported by the community so far, and they are the ones worth planning around. Catching Tips

For the overworld legendaries, reloading a small screen you can see all at once — The Summit is a favorite — is the fastest way to force new bug spawns until the one you need appears. Mind the season and weather columns in the table above, because hunting on the wrong conditions wastes a day. For the Biggest Beetle, craft and use Legendary Bug Pheromones on open ground, then wait for it to be lured into view. Above all, be patient: legendary bugs are “very rare” by design, so a long dry spell is normal rather than a sign that you are doing something wrong. It also helps to keep the Bug Net equipped whenever you travel, since a legendary spawn can be gone the moment you leave the screen and come back.

Other Spawn Tricks

Several bugs only appear through specific actions rather than random overworld spawns. Shaking trees, cutting grass and breaking rocks each hide their own small pools of insects, so it pays to do these chores with the Bug Net ready. Bug Pheromones — Common, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary versions — are tossed onto open ground to lure in species that would otherwise never show up, with the Biggest Beetle reserved for the legendary variant. Terrariums produce Bug Pheromones over time, which turns bug hunting into a self-sustaining loop once you have a few catches under your belt.

Museum Value

Every bug you catch can be donated to the museum’s Insects Wing, which currently holds 19 sets to complete — 17 of them actual insect collections covering 85 species. Legendary bugs also feed useful side systems: Terrariums produce Bug Pheromones, Apiaries let bees make honey, and some insects are used in Woodcrafting recipes. Most villagers dislike bugs as gifts, so donating or crafting beats gifting them.
